Reed Retreat is a study in what it means to belong to a landscape.
On open ground outside Reed Point, the property brings together a main residence of roughly 5,000 square feet and three detached cabins, each designed to read as a natural extension of the terrain rather than an imposition on it.
The project demanded precision from the first site visit. The main house pairs heavy timber and a steep, single-slope roofline with walls of glass facing the long views. The three cabins needed independent utility runs and careful siting so every unit keeps its own view corridor without crowding the main residence’s lines of sight.
Reed Retreat sits just east of Big Timber, at the eastern edge of the corridor we serve. It is the kind of project C&L was built for: a client with a clear vision, a wide-open site in dramatic Montana country, and a standard of craft that has to hold at every detail, from structure to finish.

“Building Reed Retreat was a large and complex project, but what made the experience so rewarding was the partnership we developed with C&L Builders. They consistently treated the project as if they had a personal stake in its success.”
